Dick Hunt is an operatic tenor who has graced stages in both the US and Germany. His performances are known for combining the thrilling vocals of the operatic repertoire with the queer sensibilities of drag. Dick’s inception was inspired by opera’s own history — one where pants roles for mezzos are a staple of the repertoire, and where gender bending has had a long history for all genders onstage. Dick serves to skewer the cliche of the male performer with an oversized ego, one whose self-assurance and swagger is undercut by his own lack of self-awareness. He is also a joyful conduit to express the fluidity of gender for the performer.
Dick is the founder of the operatic drag king group, “The Three Drag Tenors”, consisting of 3 “tenors”/sopranos — Dick Hunt, Seymour Bush, and Justin Beaver-Hunt. Their shows skewer the form of a Three Tenors concert, while weaving in comedy and a narrative theatrical structure.
